Engraving-Hammering-Casting: Exploring the Sonic-Ergotic Medium for Live Musical Performance
نویسندگان
چکیده
Engraving–Hammering–Casting is a live music composition written for two performers, who interact with forcefeedback haptic interfaces. This paper describes the philosophy and development of the composition. A virtual physical model of vibrating resonators is designed and employed to generate both the sound and the haptic force feedback. Because the overall system, which includes the physical model and the coupled operators to it, is approximately energy conserving, the model simulates what is known as ergotic interaction. It is believed that the presented music composition is the first live composition, in which performers interact with an acoustic physical model that concurrently generates sound and ergotic haptic force feedback. The composition consists of three sections, each of which is motivated by a particular kind of craft process involving manipulation of a tool by hand.

Live coding youtube: organizing streaming media for an audiovisual performance
Music listening has changed greatly with the emergence of music streaming services, such as Spotify and YouTube. In this paper, we discuss an artistic practice that organizes streaming videos to perform a real-time improvisation via live coding. A live coder uses any available video from YouTube, a video streaming service, as source material to perform an improvised audiovisual piece. The chall...
متن کاملMixPlore: A Cocktail-Based Media Performance Using Tangible User Interfaces
This paper presents MixPlore, a framework for a cocktail-based live media performance. It aims to maximize the pleasure of mixology, presenting the cocktail as a plentiful art medium where people can fully enjoy new synesthetic contents by the integration of bartending and musical creation. For this, we fabricated Tangible User Interfaces (TUIs): tin, glass, muddler, and costume display, etc. T...
متن کاملDisembodied and Collaborative Musical Interaction in the Multimodal Brain Orchestra
Most new digital musical interfaces have evolved upon the intuitive idea that there is a causality between sonic output and physical actions. Nevertheless, the advent of braincomputer interfaces (BCI) now allows us to directly access subjective mental states and express these in the physical world without bodily actions. In the context of an interactive and collaborative live performance, we pr...

This paper introduces programmable text rendering that enables temporal typography in web browsers. Typing is seen not only as a dynamic but interactive process facilitating both scripted and live musical expression in various contexts such as audio-visual performance using keyboards and live coding visualization. With the programmable text animation , we turn plain text into a highly audiovisu...
متن کاملEnacting musical worlds: common approaches to using nimes within both performance and person-centred arts practices
Live music making can be understood as an enactive process, whereby musical experiences are created through human action. This suggests that musical worlds coevolve with their agents through repeated sensorimotor interactions with the environment (where the music is being created), and at the same time cannot be separated from their sociocultural contexts. This paper investigates this claim by ...
